To Team or Not Team
To Team or Not Team: I have at arrived at my decision whether to work on my portfolio project in a group or not and have decided to work in a group. Even though I know that it will be hard to work in a group, since I am online. But I have actually decided to work in a group, my decision is a result from the experience with the “Social Media Peer Account” and the Lost at Sea” team-building activity on Blackboard. For example, when doing both the social media and the lost at sea activity it was extremely hard trying to talk back and forth to my teammate while being online. But once we figured out a way to communicate the activity was fun. This is because as an online school student, you don’t really get to talk to your friends in class or anyone really for that matter. But with this activity the online students got to talk and collaborate with anyone in the class. This made the activity's go super quick and I felt like I paid more attention to the assignment at hand. Also, in the “Social Media Peer Account” when we had to go through our partner's social media try to figure out the story that was presented from all their posts, it was nice to be able to talk to our partners to get their side of their posts too. Then in the “Lost at Sea” activity it was interesting and great to discuss your individual ranking and decide collectively upon new ranking and enter them in the column on the “Lost at Sea Ranking Chart”.
In addition, in “Team building and group dynamics: creating and fostering a culture of teamwork requires trust, collaboration, and accountability” talks about the importance of teamwork on projects by saying, “The sixth-month program establishes a common language for the team to communicate, standardize expectations to improve accountability, strengthen leadership abilities, and create an emotionally intelligent culture.” Therefore, working in a group is so important to me because while being in group with your friends and classmates you get to also work on all these qualities as described in the article. Like learning how to establish and strengthen your leadership abilities. Also, in the article, “The effect of personality type on team performance” it talks about the benefits of a team by saying, “A cohesive team will demonstrate a spirit of togetherness and support for one another that helps team members quickly resolve conflicts without residual hard feelings.” This is important of any group that is doing a project, where no matter what you guys are going through on a personal level you still come together to finish what needs to be done for the project. Lastly, in “The effect of personality type on team performance” it talks about the important qualities of a team member by saying, “Team members must be able to empathize with one another in order to avoid political infighting.” This helped me a lot to figure out how to choose a good teammate to do this project with. But with a good teammate it will help you a lot to make your project ten times better. Therefore, I have chosen to do my project with a team.
