 Creativity and Genre: Blog Post 5: Creativity and Genre 

            When embarking upon a new endeavor in a field ripe with choices, the process of creativity is the most important part. Without creativity everyone’s ideas would be the same and no one would think outside the box to complete difficult tasks or jobs. For example, last week when I was doing the “New Introductions” activity I honestly don’t think I would be able to complete without my creativity. For example, completing a school activity is already hard enough but without creativity to add in the extra details or elaboration. It makes it a one-hundred times harder. Therefore, creativity is so important for everyone’s daily life. But some people believe that you actually lose creativity as you grow older. But I must argue that you actually don’t loose creativity when you get older. For example, in the Ted Talk video we watched in the speaker talks about the loose of creativity, by revering to a box he said that as you are a kid a box could be anything. It can be a car, a house, or even a boat. But as you grow up the box becomes more and more just a “box”. This could be described as you are losing your creative spark. But then the speaker said that you aren’t losing creativity, but instead it is being suppressed. This is because in school we are taught to only think one way, this is due to all the standardized tests. Lastly, the speaker says that your creative “spark” can be awaken by closing your eyes, relaxing, and saying whatever pops up in your headfirst and elaborating. In addition, in the Gale article it goes into the importance of creative learning. In the article, “An Interview with Ron Beghetto: Subtle Nuances of Creativity in Leaning and Life” the author gets into creative learning by saying, “His research explores the role uncertainty plays in creativity, learning, and instruction; the development of more dynamic methods for studying creative expression; and how making principled changes to existing teaching, learning, and leadership practices can result in more creative and sustainable innovations.” This explains the research of Dr. Ron Beghetto’s creative learning. This is important because it builds the groundwork for this entire article and his learning style. Also, it explains the problems with education system we have now and how it only tries to make you think one way. Lastly, it explains that if you want to have a great innovation, the key element is creativity. This is why creativity is so important.  

            In addition, in the genre and medium I am working in the person I look up to is James Gunn. His creativity really shines through is work especially in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 1 and 2. One example of his creativity shining through his work is how the portrayed the character of Rocket Raccoon in the movie of Guardians of the Galaxy. This is because when James got the call to audition for director of Guardians of the Galaxy. He was really worried how he could be able to portray a raccoon as a main character on the main stage. So, he told Disney that he probably won't be taking the job, but then he figured out how he would be able to show the evolution of this character that was confusing him. By first showing how he was experimented on and how he felt all alone in the world unit he meets the Guardians. This is how James thought people were going to be able to connect with this character and it turns out he was right. He made Rocket Raccoon a household name! This is exactly what I want to emulate in my movie by taking a character that is confusing and making it so everyone can connect with them. But what I would change is that the character even though they would have a crazy story, the problems the characters face would be way more realistic than Guardians of the Galaxy in a way. 

            My vision for my project is a funny, superhero action movie. It will be a mix of Guardians of the Galaxy and the Netflix show Umbrella Academy. The part that excites the most is using all the VFX and CGI to make really exciting superhero fight scenes. I will be doing this through the applications called Adobe Premier Pro and Adobe After Effects. Lastly, I choose to share this story through the Adobe.
